November Charity Partner: Beyond Type 1
Nov 01, 2026
For a lot of people living with diabetes, the phone in their hand doubles as a window into their blood sugar. Every reading that pops up on the screen comes with a decision to make, and Beyond Type 1 exists so nobody has to make those calls alone.
Casely's #EveryCaseCounts partner for November is Beyond Type 1, a nonprofit supporting people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Here's who they are, what they do, and the easiest ways to pitch in this month.
What is Beyond Type 1?
Beyond Type 1 is a global nonprofit that supports people living with diabetes and the people who care for them. Nick Jonas and Juliet de Baubigny co-founded it in 2015 with a group of fellow diabetes advocates, and it now reaches the largest digital audience of any diabetes nonprofit in the world.
Despite the name, the organization also covers type 2 and prediabetes under the Beyond Type 2 name. Its mission sums up in three words: survive, thrive, and drive, with "drive" meaning pushing research toward prevention and cures.
What Does Beyond Type 1 Do?
Beyond Type 1 runs free programs and resources for people living with diabetes, plus the family and friends who show up for them every day.
Straight-Talking Resources
The nonprofit's site is packed with guides written for real life, on topics like insulin, mental health, pregnancy, and traveling with diabetes. One section is even called Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll, which tells you a lot about its no-judgment tone.
Its Beyond Diagnosis program is built for people who've just been diagnosed. It's upfront about how rough that moment feels and gives them a clear place to start.
Help with Insulin Costs
Paying for insulin is a real hurdle for plenty of Americans. If insulin costs are a worry, the charity’s Get Insulin program walks you through the access and savings programs available in the U.S., based on your insurance and where you live.
Community and Awareness
Free community apps give people a safe space to swap stories and advice with others who get it. The #SeeTheSigns program teaches the warning signs of type 1 diabetes, so more families know what to look for.
The marathon team, Beyond Type Run, brings runners living with diabetes together to train for and race in major marathons.
What Can You Do to Support Beyond Type 1?
You can back Beyond Type 1 with a gift or with your voice, and both options start on the organization's site.
Make a Donation
The simplest way to help is a gift through the nonprofit's donation page, which funds programs like the ones above.
Start a Fundraiser
Birthdays and race days both make good excuses to raise money. You can set up your own fundraiser on the organization's site and share it with friends and family.
Spread the Word
Sign up as a #SeeTheSigns ambassador and share the warning signs with your followers. Living with diabetes yourself? The community also welcomes people who want to share their own stories.
