Your Christmas Eve Aesthetic: 4 DIY Tips for Christmas Parties, Decorations, & Holiday Lights

Your Christmas Eve Aesthetic: 4 DIY Tips for Christmas Parties, Decorations, & Holiday Lights
Your Christmas Eve Aesthetic: 4 DIY Tips for Christmas Parties, Decorations, & Holiday Lights

It’s Christmas Eve! Santa is on his way, and it’s time to cuddle up and cozy down (as Dolly Parton and Michael Buble would say) and celebrate the festivities in style.

Whether you’ve had your halls decked since the 25th of November or you’re a firm believer in decorating right before Christmas, it’s time to make your home so festive that even the Grinch would start singing a carol or two.

1. Fairy Lights

It doesn’t matter if you’re throwing the Christmas party of the year or getting together with friends, family, or your dog to watch your favorite Christmas film. All that matters is that you have some fairy lights to shine in your room and house.

Christmas is all about letting in the light when those nights have well and truly drawn in. Whether you go for a warm gold, multicolored light with petite or larger bulbs, decorating your room or home with fairy lights will add a cozy feel to the festival spirit.

2. Bring The Festive Fun

If you’re throwing a festive Christmas Eve party, you need to bring some festive cheer, and what better way to do that than a fun, even silly, party game like "Pin the nose on Rudolf”? Whether the room is full of adults or you have some kiddies to entertain, pin-the-tail is an easy game that never gets out.

Print out a poster of Rudolf with his red nose like this. Then, one by one, everyone must be blindfolded and handed a red nose (a cardboard cut-out, a sticker, or some sparkly red card). Whoever gets their red nose closest to the one on the poster wins.

You don’t even need to provide a prize, but a little Christmas present might not go amiss!

3. Create A Wreath

If you fancy a calmer, more tranquil Christmas Eve celebration, why not get the girls together, gather the ingredients for mulled wine, and make some Christmas wreaths ready to display on Christmas morning? Christmas wreath making can be tricky, so help yourself (and your stress levels out) by collecting the materials well in advance. You’ll need:

  • Wreath base
  • Secateurs
  • Wire cutters
  • Florist wire
  • Moss – ask your local florist for sustainably harvested moss or search online
  • Greenery, such as  conifers, ivy, holly, eucalyptus, bay and rosemary
  • Decorations, such as pine cones, cinnamon sticks, or dried orange slices

4. Make Homemade Stars and Snowflakes

If making a natural wreath feels like hard work the night before Christmas, why not make some snowflakes or stars instead? You’ll need aluminum foil for the stars, which you can fold into shape or place around cardboard star cut-outs.

Then, for snowflakes, all you need to do is cut out a circular shape of paper and fold it as many times as you need. Be careful not to cut off the connecting parts completely; you can cut out little shapes so that when you open the paper, you have fun snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.
