November Charity Partner: Beyond Type 1

November Charity Partner: Beyond Type 1

While Christmas isn’t quite here yet, you don’t have to wait until December to give back to the community. That’s where our November charity partner comes in, and this month it’s the fantastic charity, Beyond Type 1.

Who Is Beyond Type 1?

Beyond Type 1 is an incredible nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all those affected by diabetes. Since its founding in 2015, Beyond Type 1 now has the largest digital audience of any diabetes nonprofit globally. Beyond Type 1 diabetes is all about being by the side of those with diabetes, from awareness to prevention, diagnosis to daily management.

Beyond Type 1 believes that everyone with diabetes has the right to live a whole and rich life, whether the individual has type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Whether through education, community engagement, or self-advocacy, Beyond Type 1 wants to support individuals, wherever they are on their journey.

Keen to dismantle the stigma surrounding diabetes domestically and worldwide, Beyond Type 1 provides connection among communities, real funding, and practical tools to help those living with diabetes.

How Does Beyond Type 1 Help?

Survive

The survival area of the Beyond Type 1 diabetes program focuses on meeting basic needs to ensure survival. These fall under two areas:

See The Signs

This global #SeeTheSigns campaign is all about raising awareness so that people who might have diabetes don’t miss the crucial and sometimes life-threatening signs. 1 in 3 people with type 1 diabetes die from misdiagnosis, so it’s vital that as many people as possible have awareness.

GetInsulin.org

Another crucial component to surviving is the absolute necessity of insulin. Insulin should be readily available for all those who need it, and Beyond Type 1 believes that nobody should pay more than $35 for insulin. GetInsulin.org can help find solutions.

Thrive

The Thrive area of the program focuses on life after basic needs have been met. This includes:

  • Beyond Diagnosis

  • Beyond Scholars

  • Community Table

  • Community Apps

The Community Table and Community Apps serve to connect individuals through roundtable discussions and provide a space to share. Meanwhile, Beyond Diagnosis is all about providing an interactive beginner’s guide to life with diabetes to quieten the panic of that initial “what now?” feeling. Beyond Scholars is also about thriving, but this time in the educational system.

Drive

Beyond Barriers and Beyond Run are the two staples of the Drive program, all about increasing awareness in the community and fundraising.

What Can You Do To Help?

Luckily, there are a whole host of ways that you can help, including:

  • Making a donation

  • Becoming an Ambassador

  • Becoming a Sponsor

  • Hosting a Meet Up

  • Starting a fundraiser

  • Sharing your story

However you choose to give, in time, effort, or more, Beyond Type 1 has a range of ways to get involved and make a difference. As Casely’s charity partner this month, if you buy a case in November (or two, or three, or four!), a portion of the profits will go directly into Beyond Type 1’s pocket.
