5 Summer Activities You Did as a Kid That Are Still Fun as an Adult
Jun 14, 2023
Many of us reminisce about the summers of our childhood. For some, it can feel like those times are long gone, but that isn't the case! It's entirely possible to create some of that joy; you merely need a change in perspective.
To help connect you with your inner child, we'll take you through five activities you can do this summer that will make you feel nostalgic and joyful. Who says kids should have all the fun? It's time for you to make some new summer memories!
1. Treat Yourself to Ice Cream From a Truck
Ice cream always seemed to taste better as a kid when you got it from the truck rather than the store. Sure, there aren't as many ice cream trucks around these days, but they still exist - especially in public parks with plenty of willing customers. Enjoy an ice cream next time you visit the park. Trust us; you'll love it.
2. Have a Picnic
A picnic can be enormous fun, even if it's solo! All you need is a blanket, a good book, some music, and lots of good food. Treat yourself to whatever you'd like. Throw the rules out the window and enjoy yourself. That kind of freedom is what most of us miss from our childhood anyway, so recreate it!
3. Throw a Pool Party
Many adults have pool parties, but they tend to be a little boozy. If you're trying to feel more childlike, maybe forgo the alcohol and enjoy the pool for what it is! There are plenty of games you can play in the pool with your friends. Ditch the sunbathing and loud music and do something a little more active; you won't regret it.
4. Go on a Bike Trip
Plenty of us remember spending our entire day riding our bikes in the summer. It seems difficult to believe that riding around aimlessly could be so entertaining, but it was, and you can have that feeling again! Take your bike out and head in any direction you like. It's fantastic exercise, but more importantly, it's just plain fun.
5. Go to the Beach and Build Sandcastles
Lastly, and maybe the most exciting on this list, it's time to build sandcastles! The mistake many of us make after growing up is believing that certain activities are strictly for children. That kind of shame will kill a lot of opportunities for fun. Get out to the beach and get creative!
Summer is All About Having Fun
If you feel like adult life is starting to get you down, it might be time to reconnect with your childhood. While that may sound like something only therapy could achieve, you might be surprised by how many activities you can enjoy as an adult that you equally enjoyed as a kid. You won't know until you try, so give it a spin!
