July Charity Partner: Camp Kesem

Casely is about creating stylish phone cases so you always look chic. But we’re not just about making a difference in your style; we also care about making a difference in the world. With the fun, free, sunny days ahead, what better organization to support this summer than Camp Kesem?

Who Are Camp Kesem?

There are very few people who don’t at least know someone affected by cancer, either directly as the patient or as someone supporting a friend or family member. There are a staggering 5 million children currently coping with a parent’s cancer diagnosis, and Camp Kesem seeks to help. 

Whether an adult or a child, cancer is a terrifying diagnosis to process, but our featured charity organization, Camp Kesem, seeks to create a world where every child dealing with their parent’s diagnosis or who has lost a parent to cancer never feels alone. 

With Kesem’s fun, free, and creative programs, children have a chance for escapism and a lasting community of friends who understand exactly what they’re going through. 

That’s why Camp Kesem was created.

What’s a Typical Day At Camp Kesem?

We all need a break from life's worries, and that’s never been more true for the children of those with cancer diagnoses. Founded in 2000 at Stanford University, Camp Kesem provides a fun, free, creative overnight summer camp. For a whole week, children ages 6 - 18 can get away and have fun with peers who understand their world. 

A fun, compassionate atmosphere is critical to the week-long stay. A typical morning could include:

• Arts and crafts 
• Sports 
• Swimming 

It ends with “Cabin Time” to give room for relaxation. Then, an afternoon could see: 

• The “Web of Kindness” lunchtime activity to promote compassion and empowerment
•  More traditional camp activities 
• Opportunities to try a new activity 

In the evening, it’s all about spending time with friends, eating yummy food, and getting around the campfire with s'mores and cocoa.
