February Charity Partner: City Harvest

February Charity Partner: City Harvest

Casely is honored to be partnering with City Harvest this February as part of the #EveryCaseCounts charity initiative. Learn about the New York-based nonprofit and how to contribute to its cause.

What is City Harvest?

City Harvest is a food rescue organization based in New York City that has helped fight hunger in its community for more than 40 years. They provide fresh, nutritious food to those facing food insecurity by rescuing high-quality goods that would otherwise go to waste and delivering them to food pantries and soup kitchens across the five boroughs.

Since its founding in 1982, City Harvest has salvaged more than one billion pounds of surplus food that would have otherwise gone to the landfill. Their fleet of trucks operates every day, picking up goods from donors and delivering them to a network of 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, and community food programs.

City Harvest also takes extra steps to ensure that New York residents with specific dietary needs have access to healthy, culturally appropriate foods through its kosher and halal food rescue programs. They offer free nutrition education classes, teaching everything from understanding nutrition labels to making a healthy meal.

How Can You Help?

Donate Funds

Support City Harvest’s food rescue efforts through donations. Every dollar you donate helps feed two New Yorkers for a day. Give a one-time donation or become a monthly donor for continuous support.

Start a Fundraiser

Fundraising is a great way to support City Harvest. From birthday parties to bake sales, you can fundraise as an individual or as part of your company. Receive a toolkit from the nonprofit with everything you need to get started.

Alternatively, you can donate or join an existing fundraiser, such as Team City Harvest in the TCS New York City Marathon.

Donate Food

Along with monetary donations, you can support City Harvest by donating food. Participate in one of their food drives organized in schools, apartment buildings, places of worship, and more, or start your own. If you’re a business looking to become a donor, the nonprofit will work with you to schedule convenient pick-up times.

Volunteer

Nonprofits such as City Harvest thrive on the help of volunteers. The organization offers several volunteer opportunities, from helping with food rescue to providing education, and features an orientation to prepare first-time volunteers. Volunteer as an individual or as a group—even kids and teens can get involved! View the volunteer calendar to see the opportunities available.
